Reflection of Elaine's Life
Elaine Meyers was born on April 23, 1960 in Harlem Hospital in Harlem, New York. “Lainie”, as she was affectionately called by her mother, siblings and close friends, was a fierce competitor for life. She was adventurous, creative and had an uncanny way of setting the record straight. In other words, she did not bite her tongue or mince words. She told it like it was, whether you liked it or not.
Lainie was educated through the New York City Public School system from elementary through high school. She attended The Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) and received 24 credits towards her college degree. Elaine’s childhood was full of two devastating hurdles in her young life, Epilepsy and Multiple Sclerosis. Both illnesses would have crushed a person's soul, but not Elaine, she defeated them and clearly left the physicians perplexed.
Her employment path was many, but they all had one central goal… “Helping Others”. She held a job in Nursing as a Nurse’s Aide, at NYC Health and Hospital Corporation. She was also employed as a Home Attendant and Security Officer, within the NYC Human Services Administration Government agency.
She was born in Harlem, raised in the Bronx then moved to Roosevelt Island in Manhattan and eventually returned to Harlem where she remained for over 34 plus years until her death at the same hospital she took her first breath.
Lainie was a caring and beloved daughter, sister, mother aunt, grandmother, grand-aunt and great-grandmother.
Elaine leaves behind to cherish her courageous and wonderful life her adult children, David, Simone and Jessica Meyers; grandchildren, Dottrice, Dijion, Patience and Haley Meyers, Delshawn Jackson, Sha’day and Leihanna Snipes, Kaisen Adderley, Faith and Heaven Sellars; one great-grandchild, Kamiya Jackson; older brothers, Ronald and Michael Meyers; sister, Eloise Feinberg-Meyers; a slew of nieces and nephews, Carol Alston, Butch Meyers, Antonio Smith, Danielle Meyers-Grant, Brandon Meyers, Ronald Jr. and Wesley and Sabrina Meyers; 12 grand nephews and nieces, close friends and childhood buddies who saw Elaine’s life as a blessing and was truly honored to be considered family.
