Gloria Davis Obituary

Gloria Jean Davis, being born into this world on the precious day of April 7, 1945, to James Moore Sr. and Susan McGhee-Moore of Scotland Neck, North Carolina. She graduated from Brawley High School and was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church. Upon reaching adulthood and seeking her path in life, she migrated to New York City at the age of nineteen to explore her options. In NYC she met Henry Davis Jr. they fell in love and were married on April 18, 1970. Gloria being an active member of First Sharon Baptist Church and part of the Trustee Board, was blessed with a beautiful singing voice where she served as a lead soloist with the Senior Choir. She was also a member of the New York City Mass Choir with the late Regina Moore where she actually sang lead at the Philharmonic Hall.

Gloria worked as a caregiver for the elderly for many years, often becoming family to her clients. She also worked for Herbert T. McCall Funeral Home in the South Bronx as an Executive Assistant and Bookkeeper for many years as well. Gloria being a kind soul was given by God our Father the gift of “Giving” she enjoyed making others happy and eager to help in their time of need. She was also quite talented with the Singer sewing machine being able to share this talent in her home by making exquisite draperies and valences. She also designed and created some of her own clothing in her younger years. She would also cook and make corsages and other ornaments for church events. She will truly be missed and never forgotten.

In the week before her demise while in the hospital, Mrs. Gloria Jean Davis, my mother, had a chance to speak with some of her siblings and myself, her daughter Sylvia when she stated twice, “I’ll see you on the other side” even though I, the family, including the nurses and doctors, were fighting for her to be able to come home, my mother was persistent that she was not coming home and in the end refused any other services. Now I’m telling you this to say that she knew something that we didn’t and in a matter of seven days she was gifted her rest with no more suffering. She has crossed over to the other side and is exceedingly well with joy.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Davis, Jr.; father, James Moore, Sr.; mother, Susan Moore; and her youngest brother, William Ira Moore.

Gloria leaves to cherish her memories her daughter, Sylvia Moore; son, Jason Davis of Bronx, NY; Jason being blessed to have three children of his own giving her three grandchildren, Zhane Alexis Dunn the oldest, Jayson LeVar Davis Jr., and Jaysha Davis the youngest; siblings, from oldest to youngest, Virginia Dare Smith of Philadelphia, PA, Christine Hill of Rocky Mount, NC, James Moore Jr. of Philadelphia, PA, Danford Moore of Manhattan, NY and Faye Moore of Rocky Mount, NC; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Well, Mommy one day we shall see you on the other side in Jesus' name to God be all the glory forever and ever.
