James Glover Obituary

James Glover, the son of the late Willie Mae Glover, was born in Greenwood, South Carolina, on June 9, 1944. He was the oldest of three children. He departed this life in the early morning hours of March 7, 2026.

He received his formal education in Greenwood, South Carolina. Following his High School graduation, in 1972, he left Greenwood, South Carolina and later made his home in the Bronx, New York. He began his career with G & S Motor Equipment Company, as a Welder in Kearney, New Jersey. He faithfully commuted from the Bronx, New York to Kearney, New Jersey until his retirement in 1998, after which he enjoyed a well-earned leisurely lifestyle.

He enjoyed watching old Western Movies on television, and his favorite show was Gun Smoke. He also enjoyed home cooked meals, especially barbecue ribs and soul food. In 1982 James met the love of his life, Barbara Brown, while socializing with friends at a nearby park. Barbra recalled seeing James and saying to herself, “that is a very handsome man.” She could not resist and walked up to him, introduced herself and asked, “can I get you something cool to drink?” James took one look at her and said, “Yes!” It was love at first sight! Because of her petite size, he affectionally called Barbara “Half-Pint.” James and Barbara enjoyed dating, attending parties together, where they would dance and sing the night away. They were later united in marriage. James also helped Barbara raise her two sons, Curtis and Derek Brown who fondly called him “Pop.” Derek helped Barbara with James’s care when he became ill.

He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Mae Glover; and sister, Valerie Victoria Glover.

Left to cherish his precious memories are his loving wife of many years Barbara; sons, Benjamin, of Greenwood, South Carolina, Curtis of Laurinburg, North
Carolina, and Derek of the Bronx, New York; sister, Willie Mae Glover of Greenwood, South Carolina; niece, Bernadine of Fayetteville, North Carolina; Carlos and Maritza Lopez, of the Bronx New York and a host of other relatives and friends.

Gone too soon.

James,  “Half-Pint” Loves you!
