“Come unto Me, all who are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.” ~~ Matthew 11:28-30
so loving and so kind, was born on Tuesday, June 1, 1948 to Charles Shreeves and Irlar Belle Shreeves in the state of New York. At the age of 77 years old she received her wings to glory on Monday, January 5, 2026, at the Park Gardens
Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Bronx, New York. Both parents, Charles Shreeves and Irlar B. Shreeves preceded her in death along with her brother William Edward Smallwood. received her formal education in Bronx, New York attending PS60 Primary School and the William Howard Taft High School graduating with honors. Our beloved so affectionally known by those who knew her leaves behind a legacy of selfless generosity, wisdom, and enduring faith. She was a woman of unwavering kindness, quiet strength, and love for her family, friends and community.
She was reared in a Christian home and was young in age when she decided to choose God as her personal Lord and Savior becoming a member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in New York, New York. Growing up serving God at Mt. Nebo, was devoted and worked faithfully and dutifully singing in the choir and served diligently as the Church School Teacher.
As years passed in her life while attending Mt. Nebo, she met and married the love of her life, the late Reverend Ulysses F. Alford on September 19, 1970. She was a very devoted wife of 55 years. He preceded her in death on June 8, 2025. Continuing to follow her husband and praising God she began to fellowship with the Second Tabernacle Baptist Church where she lifted her voice in unity singing in the choir and serving on the Willing Workers Auxiliary Committee. The voice of an Angel will truly be missed.
As years passed, she and her late husband relocated to South Carolina and she advanced and excelled employment as a supervisor with the Social Services Department in Columbia, South Carolina. will be missed by many. The love she shared and gave to everyone with a smile and a thank you will be forever cherished and remembered. Now, as we send home to be our Angel on high, she leaves behind beautiful memories and love in the hearts of her three sisters: Candace and Evelyn Shreeves (Twins) of Bronx, New York; and Pastor Charlene Shreeves Galbreth of Staten Island, New York; a host of loving nieces, nephews and cousins of the heart.
I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith: Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only, but also to all who have loved His appearing.
