Larry Young was born on November 12, 1950 to the late Syvilla Young. Larry graduated from Evander Childs High School in Bronx, New York. After graduating high school, he married Vernell Cohen Young on November 22, 1969 at Bright Temple Church AME and from that union three wonderful children were born, Lawrence, Damon and Leshawn.
He was a member of Bright Temple Church AME. Sometime in the 70’s Larry was initiated as a Mason. He loved being with his Mason family and loved cookouts. Wherever there was food, there was Larry. He was baptized at Greater File Baptist Church where he became a Deacon with the late Reverend Dr. Jasper Simmons. Larry worked at Merrill Lynch Financial Trading Company and was also a cancer survivor.
He was predeceased by his wife, Vernell; mother, Syvilla; two sisters, Margo Young and Vilita Reape; two sister-in-laws, Cynthia, (Cindy) and Carol (CC).
Larry leaves to cherish his memories, two sons, Lawrence and Damon Young (Martha); one daughter, Leshawn Young; seven grandchildren, Damon Jr., Brianna, Kalya, Bryant, Star, Chyna and Jahiem (Jay Jay); two brothers, David (Virgie) Young and Lionel (Blanca) Young; uncle, Clinton “Kenny” Nared; aunt, Daisy Hill; one great uncle; one great aunt; Anthony (Tony) Nazario who was like a son to him; a lot of nieces and nephews “when I say a lot of them”; along with a host of cousins, family and friends.
Larry’s kids had a saying; he was “The Mayor of the Hood”.
Goodbye Dad, Uncle, Nephew, Brother, Cousin and Friend.
