Lenora Burton Obituary

Lenora E. Burton was born on August 27, 1951 in Rice Virginia to Esther Lacy and the late Arnell Lacy.  On April 28, 2023, Lenora surrounded by the love of her children peacefully transitioned into her Eternal Resting Place.

During her childhood years, she attended High Bridge Baptist Church in Rice, Virginia with her grandmother and other family members.  She then relocated to New York during grade school to join her parents in seek of a better life of freedom and greater opportunities.

Lenora received her education in the New York City Public School system at JHS 192 and Andrew Jackson High School. After graduating Andrew Jackson High School, she worked for AT&T as a typist and then pursued a long time career with over 30 years of service with the New York City Department of Social Service as a Clerk, Time Keeper and later becoming a Supervisor.

In 1969, she married William (Billy) J. Burton and from that union their beautiful baby girl Latoshia Burton was born. After divorcing Billy, she then met and fell in love with Fermin Reid and from that union their bouncing baby boy Maurice (Reese) Reid was born.

Lenora’s vibe escalated with Fermin’s because he was a perfect match to her style and love of fashion. She was a fashionista for sure with an appeal that demanded attention with her walk into any room. If you didn’t know her one would suggest that she was someone with notoriety. Lenora was a beautiful woman who was poised with dignity, class and style. She was also a good cook, loved music and was a great dancer. She was regarded as a woman who simply did not accept nonsense…but had a heart of gold. If you needed her for anything she was sure to be there for her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Arnell Lacy; grandmother, Betty Goines; uncle, Joseph; aunts, Ethel and Betty Ann and cousin, Melvin.

Lenora leaves to cherish her memory daughter, Latoshia Robinson (Anthony Robinson); son, Maurice Reid; three beautiful grandsons, Alhaji, Aliff and Kamaur’i whom she adored immensely; loving mother, Esther Lacy; three grandchildren from the union of Latoshia and Anthony, Shalima, Zion and Amauri; uncles, William and Landis; along with a host of cousins, other relatives too numerous to name; and devoted and longtime friends, Cheryl Newkirk, Barbara Battle and Elreta Isley.
