Leon Mitchell Obituary

Leon Mitchell was born January 6, 1956 at Morrisania City Hospital in the Bronx, New York.  He was the sixth child to the late Willie and Alberta Mitchell Sr.  Leon departed this life on February 19th, 2021.

Leon was educated in the New York City public school system where he loved to play basketball and had a great jump shot.

He was a proud man who believed in hard work.  Leon was a dishwasher and a dedicated worker for over twenty-five years working at the William Hudson Community Center in the Bronx, New York which was the first Senior Center in the nation.  He rarely called in sick and had to be reminded to take vacation.  Leon enjoyed his job and loved working with the seniors at the center.

He liked to walk around the neighborhood taking in the scenery and was able to tell you when a new store was opening.  He was also a fan of watching Westerns.

His brother, James “Sonny” Crew preceded him in death.

Leon was loved by many and leaves those to cherish his memory his siblings, Gloria “Baby Snook” Billington, Jeannette (Reyes) Ayala, Elizabeth “Cookie” Valdes, Ethel “Wanda” Crew and Willie “Bruce” Mitchell; along with a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.

Leon was a carefree man and never let anything bother him.  He didn’t have a care in the world and lived his life his way!
