Robertha Smith

Robertha Smith was born on March 11, 1938 to the late Samuel Smith and Josie Houston in Savanna, Georgia.

Robertha spent her younger years of life in Savanna, Georgia where she was loved by her parents and extended family members. During the 1950’s she and her mother relocated to New York City.  Much later, she met William C. Brathwaite and through this union six children were born.  She raised her family in the Boston Road/Cauldwell Avenue Community of the Bronx New York.

She was a stay-at-home mother who loved to take care of her home and made sure her children were well cared for. Robertha was an exceptional woman who did everything with love, grace, and passion always wanting the best for her children. She was a classy lady with good manners who always wore proper attire.  She raised her children with morals, values, politeness, and respect for others. Her children grew up with a close bond. One of the memorable things about Robertha is that she loved to cook, she was a great cook. During the holidays her children and some neighborhood friends looked forward to having a well-prepared meal. She also loved music, some of her favorites were Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Marvin Gaye, and Earth Wind and Fire just to name a few.  She also loved gospel music, Donnie McClurkin, Mahalia Jackson and others, it always filled her with so much joy.

Robertha gave her life to Jesus Christ in 1985 and joined Thessalonia Baptist Church where she was baptized. Her faith was strong and she loved her church home. Through her elderly years she inherited a number of illnesses. She was surrounded by many children and grandchildren who were there to comfort her and make her laugh as they shared precious memories of events with her. On April 7, 2023, Robertha was called home by our Heavenly Father.

Robertha is preceded in death is her father, Samuel Smith; mother, Josie Houston and son, Michael Smith.

She leaves to cherish her memory six children, Delores Baired, Pinnie Smalls, Janet Brathwaite, William C. Brathwaite III, Joanne Brathwaite, and Jermaine Brathwaite; along with and a host of grand and great-grandchildren; other family members and friends.

Robertha we will always love and miss you.
