Obituary
Shirley Ann Blakeney, 66 was born May 1st, 1956 to Williemae Blakeney and Riley Mason, Sr. in Brooklyn, New York.
In New York, Shirley attended P.S.146, P.S 147, and graduated from Walton High School. She worked as a nurse, bus monitor and mother gure, caring for her siblings due to the loss of their parents. Shirley moved to Charlotte, NC in 1989, where she was employed at Carolina Medical Center (CMC) and Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, (CMS) as a CNA/Home Health Aide while also being a foster mother.
On August 5th, 2022, Shirley was called home to be with the Lord. She was full of life and loved helping others before she helped herself. Shirley had a contagious smile and optimistic view on life. She was that shoulder to cry on and listening ear that was always one call away when you needed her.
In Shirley’s free time, she found interest in doing word searches, going shopping and cooking for her family. She enjoyed being on the prayer line, having her great niece, Bailey and great-nephews, Antonio and Qualik as company.
Shirley has gained her wings and joined her late mother, Williemae Blakeney; father, Riley Mason, Sr.; brother, Edward Blakeney; and niece, Riva Mason.
Shirley is survived by her children, Joshua Mason, Ivan Mason, Sr. (Ebony), Ivory Mason, Anthony Mason, Ashley Mason, and Tamika Mason; siblings, Mary Burnell (Harold), Frederick
Blakeney, Riley Mason, Jr., Wanda De-Souza (Mohammed), Renee Holloway (Melvin), Lisa Blakeney, and Tunya Blakeney-Davis (Chico); nieces and nephews, Matthew, ShayQueena, Antonisha, Brandon, Joe, Rayshard, Sherlina, Malik, Valerie, Emanie, Tyrell, Tyreek, and Mecca; several grandchildren, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.
